UNIT 1: CONCEPTIONS AND ASPECTS OF CURRICULUM

Under the 1st unit, we started by learning about the meaning of curriculum. After going through all the definitions and meanings, I created my own meaning that is, Curriculum is framework used by the schools in order to direct the learning of the students and that must be based by different educational ideologies. Also, we had a brief discussion on how we want curriculum to be in our elective subject. Among the five areas we discussed I felt that although it is quite difficult to teach English, the pedagogy has improved over the years equipping students with 21st century skills and using differentiated learning. However, regardless of whichever subject it is, I think it is high time that we change our education system, where the assessment is very much test and examination driven. I don’t need to really elaborate on this because it is understandable why. However, now with Bhutan Baccalaureate, we have greater hope in changing the education system of Bhutan. Among the various conceptions of curriculum that we went through, I feel that if we combine humanistic and technological conception, it will contribute to equip students with the 21st century skills and can create competitive students aimed at bringing progressive change in the society.
